Honoring a Hero’s Legacy in Golden

The Golden, Colorado community is in deep mourning following the tragic passing of Officer Evan Dunn, a highly respected member of the Golden Police Department, who lost his life in a collision on November 8, 2024, at just 33 years old. Known for his bravery, professionalism, and compassion, Officer Dunn’s sudden death has left an unfillable void in the hearts of his colleagues, friends, and family.

Evan was more than a police officer  he was a man of integrity and courage. Before joining the Golden Police Department, he built an impressive military career, serving as a Blackhawk helicopter pilot and commander, where his leadership and dedication inspired everyone around him. Those who worked with him describe him as “the kind of officer and friend everyone could count on,” a person whose actions reflected his deep commitment to service and community.

 Community United in Grief and Remembrance

The city of Golden has come together to honor Officer Dunn’s life and service. Flags were lowered to half-staff across the city, and makeshift memorials began appearing outside the Golden Police Department, filled with flowers, candles, and heartfelt messages from residents. Local officials and community members have expressed profound sorrow, recognizing the enormous contributions Officer Dunn made during his time in both military and law enforcement service.

Golden’s Mayor and Police Chief released joint statements extending condolences to Evan’s family  especially his beloved wife, Annalise, and their loyal dog, Remy  and emphasizing how deeply his absence will be felt. “Officer Dunn represented the best of us,” one colleague shared. “His bravery, kindness, and love for this community will never be forgotten.”

Counseling and peer support have been made available for fellow officers as the department copes with the devastating loss of one of its most dedicated members.

As investigations continue into the collision that claimed his life, the focus remains on celebrating the remarkable legacy Officer Dunn leaves behind. Plans are underway for a public memorial service, where family, friends, and community members will gather to pay tribute to his enduring spirit and selfless service.

Evan’s life was defined by purpose  a commitment to protect others, to serve with honor, and to lead with compassion. His story stands as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by those in uniform and the enduring strength of community when faced with loss.

Though his watch has ended, Officer Evan Dunn’s legacy will continue to live on  in the city he served, the lives he touched, and the unwavering example he set for future generations.
